The foundation of the Packaging Centre is based upon the need for adjusted measuring equipment within the Euregion. The Packaging Centre (conditioned room 23°C and 50% relative humidity) starts with the most recent, state of the art basic equipment for conducting tests in accordance with the officially recognised standards. The investment includes equipment for accurate sample preparation and for primary characterisation, equipment for an extensive quality characterisation of packaging materials and finished packaging products and, finally, equipment for establishing the influences of transport through simulation tests. In co-operation with and complementary to the specialisation of the Belgian Packaging Institute (BVI), i.e. the migration problem, the permeability research for water vapour, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas will become the spearhead of the Packaging Centre’s activities. Packaging involves an essential asset in marketing and sales, therefore Packaging involves protection, preservation, identification and convenience. The trial and error period is definitely gone and packaging technology has become a real science.

A master in Packaging technology is ready to design, create, innovate and improve packaging in food and non food, to develop new packaging methods (intelligent, smart, active packaging), to carry out various mechanical and physical chemical tests, to master logistics, environmental and legislative issues and to write technical specifications and deal with suppliers
